I know multiplayer isn't high on your list;

However, I do believe the current state of the game would lend itself well to "Play by Email" and "Hotseat".

I'd love to play the game hotseat with my spouse. We used to play MoO2 hotseat all the time.

Play by Email would be a blast w\ my Dad or my Friends as well.

My gaming group has been begging for a PbEm game forever. This game would lend itself to that perfectly.

I don't see much need for hotseat though.

I'm not really asking for competative multiplayer here (ie: player vs. player), just a nice 2 players vs the computer type thing.

(That's what I'd tell my brother, until it was time for him to "retire"! )

Seriously though, it'd be a blast to play hotseat or by email. (With all the random stuff in there, who needs balance when you're working together)

it sounds cool, but it would be really hard to do.
building your own ships is extreamly important to the game, and that takes a LONG time.
I cant really think of a way to implement that into multiplayer with out horrible wait times.

I used to play Master of Orion 2 hotseat with my friends all the time, it was a blast, even with the wait times, at least as long as a gigantic sized galaxy wasn't chosen. Play by email would be cool too. Come on, I'd buy a multiplayer add on for this game in a heartbeat!

Multiplayer "anything" is more fun 99% of the time. There just is no question about it. It's just WHO and how many as the question vs. time it takes to implement. I'm glad they didn't feel obligated, but I have a feeling it's comming. I know I will never play it but I feel for those who want it badly.

Having just spent large parts of the weekend playing Civ IV in hotseat mode, I have to agree with you guys - this game would be perfect for multiplayer fun, and though I understand some of the arguments against it (mainly shipbuilding), I do remember enjoying Space Empires IV (which also took ages to play) in hotseat mode as well. IMO, pretty much all turn based strategy games should, at the very least, have a hotseat mode.

The one thing about multiplayer that I think would be a problem is the diplomacy rating. High diplomacy ratings mean you can get better deals when you trade with a computer player. But if one human has a high diplomacy rating and the other has a low one, it doesn't have any effect when the two of them trade. They either agree or don't, diplomacy has no effect. Therefore, this rating becomes almost useless.

We will see if Frogboy goes ahead with preorders. But if anything that will be a while from now. Still it's good to keep the idea floating. There is definitly a need.

I really hope he will, and I'd be the first to order a multiplayer addon.

Yup, Hotseat would be cool.

Hi guys,

I am from Germany and I plan to buy GC2 this friday when it gets released here.

I saw that GC2 has no multiplayer which is really bad because me and my friends always play Hot-Seat Civ4/MoO2 or even make a small LAN-Party at my home. I heard the designer of GC2 are considering the ideas of the community, so I am also asking for a multiplayer feature. Thx in advance.
